In the process … searching, creating, not knowing, finding, loosing, making.., …, ….

This is part of the development of Cribrosa - an interactive screendance installation work.  Day 3 of Dance Screen Lab at Critical Path in Sydney.

Long time eh Dav!

Revisiting and reading the blog and looking at the interview (documentation by Eva Mueller), footage etc makes me wanna bring it up again and continue from where we left it Day 4! Like I said during the tim ein Sydney, I find the revealing part of the dance/film and the revealing as part of the interaction work very interesting.

I know we got a bit stuck on narrative and why narrative and moved more into playing with lights and the revealing of the body/movement. Quite enjoyed the footage of the light session.

Will try and put on some filmed material…

this is the first take of the location shoot mentioned earlier in the blog ( http://cribrosa.tumblr.com/ )

it features Adelina Larsson and was shot by David Corbet on a little Canon 3ccd miniDV cam (hence the low quality)

we went back and shot it again with an HDV camera and are working on that footage.

distraction

on thursday morning i went down to the basement to find the laundry.

in the basement there was an amazing old car turntable. used to redirect a car to fit into a parking space that it otherwise wouldn’t be able to get into.

and it was made of wood slats bound together with sheets of metal.

no motor to drive it. just pushing it manually made it spin slowly.

beautiful simple machinery.

so i got adelina to come down and we etched out an idea for a single take shot (we’d be talking about this during the workshop and had watched a very choreographed scene from I am Cuba). we played around with the turntable and got it all together.

then we shot it. on a 3 chip miniDV camera.

later that day we went back to reshoot it on HDV. but i’m not sure we improved on the content - just the quality of it.

will put up some examples soon.

anyway, it was a chance moment that yielded a quite beautiful and simple 3 minute dance film. can’t be happier really.
