distraction
on thursday morning i went down to the basement to find the laundry.
in the basement there was an amazing old car turntable. used to redirect a car to fit into a parking space that it otherwise wouldn’t be able to get into.
and it was made of wood slats bound together with sheets of metal.
no motor to drive it. just pushing it manually made it spin slowly.
beautiful simple machinery.
so i got adelina to come down and we etched out an idea for a single take shot (we’d be talking about this during the workshop and had watched a very choreographed scene from I am Cuba). we played around with the turntable and got it all together.
then we shot it. on a 3 chip miniDV camera.
later that day we went back to reshoot it on HDV. but i’m not sure we improved on the content - just the quality of it.
will put up some examples soon.
anyway, it was a chance moment that yielded a quite beautiful and simple 3 minute dance film. can’t be happier really.
